The Suprising Answer to “What’s Better for Your Skin: Water or Oil?”

12,380,000,000. That’s how many search results pull up when you Google “How to take care of your skin.” No wonder it’s often hard to know what’s true!

So when we think about whether water or oil is better for our skin, what’s the answer?

We’ll tell you what we think, but first it’s important that you know this. At Rejalla, we focus on making products that help you and don’t harm you. We want you to know more about your skin. To make better choices about what you put on your skin and into your environment. To know why certain products you purchase actually work.

With that said, let’s learn more about water, oil, and our skin, shall we?

The truth: Oil and water don’t mix, but they sure do work well together to keep your skin hydrated and healthy!

Yes, your skin needs water. Seventy percent of our body is water, and our skin is no exception. When your skin is dry, you may think you just need more oil or rich creams. But the truth is that oil does not address (not on it’s own anyway) the issue of dehydration. By the way, dehydrated skin accelerates the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, may cause breakouts, and results in a dull, lackluster complexion. Water helps! However, spraying water on the skin is also not enough because you will lose that water to the atmosphere almost immediately.

Yes, your skin loves oil. Oil helps to seal the water you put on the skin inside the deeper layers of the dermis and creates a protective barrier against other harsh elements like excessive dryness in the atmosphere or harsh winds for example. It also lubricates the skin and helps to nourish it with essential fatty acids. Seal, protect, lubricate, nourish...did you catch that?

But water and oil work well together. You need to make the water you add to your skin mineral rich and “heavy” so that the water you add actually stays and isn’t lost to the atmosphere rapidly. Humectants such as hyaluronic acid and seaweed extracts are key.

Now, this doesn’t mean you have to abandon your favorite oil or no-water lotion. Just remember to also use products that have both.

We have several you can try, and that are safe to use on your skin.

Our Rejuvenating CBD Facial Serum and our Hydrating Facial Serum both contain two kinds of hyaluronic acid so that you are hydrating both the deeper layers of the dermis as well as the top. This gives skin that soft dewy look. It also plumps up the skin beautifully so that you can very rapidly see an improvement in the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. We LOVE that our serums work for our skin.

Mineral and vitamin-rich botanical extracts also help to transform the skin and hold that water in place. Our exquisite Nourishing Facial Oil helps to seal in the moisture and help with maintaining the suppleness of your skin, slow down aging and leave your skin looking and feeling deeply nourished.

Here’s a quick beauty routine tip too: Ideally you would hydrate a freshly washed and toned face and neck with a serum of your choice and then seal it in with a facial oil. As you can see, these products work well together too.

As you’re choosing your skin products, a quick look at the ingredients lists will go a long way. Do they have water? Do they have oils? Are there botanical extracts? Is hyaluronic acid on the list? Are the ingredients real (not synthetic)? If yes, give them a try! We give you permission to be picky too. After all, you’re already beautiful. What you use on your skin should show off your natural beauty.
